LETTER: Stamp Digest

A letter from Bibhash Gupta of ‘The Stamp Digest’ to Biman Mullick encouraging him to send additional art works to the International Gandhi Stamp Exhibition and suggesting Biman’s stamp might well win an award there.

19th January, 1970

Mr. Biman Mullick,
196A, Divonshire Road,
LONDON. S. E. 23.

Dear Mr. Mullick,

I thank you for your letter dated 10th January 1970 and have the pleasure to inform you that the International Gandhi Stamp exhibition was postponed. It is now to be held from 21st January to 2nd March at the Academy of Fine Arts Calcutta. We have already received exhibits from over 10 countries who have sent stamps, original designs, colour-trials and other interesting items. A gold medal will be awarded to the best designed Gandhi Stamp of the world. The selection committee consists of Lady Ranu Mukherjee, Mr. Satyajit Ray and Professor C. Kar.

In Calcutta most of the leading collectors have liked the G. B. Gandhi Stamp as the best. I feel your design has a very good chance of being selected as the best stamp. I hope you will arrange to send some of the art works you have made for Gandhi Stamp, for this Exhibition, by Registered Air Mail.

I shall keep on sending you regularly this journal.

If there is any thing that I can do at this end please do not hesitate to let me know.

Thanking you,

Yours sincerely,

BIBHASH GUPTA.
