Brisk bidding for Bangladesh stamps in London
From Sunder Kabadi
LONDON, July 30
One of the committee rooms at the House of Commons was temporarily converted into an auction room yesterday when John Stonehouse arranged to sell by auction Bangladesh postage stamps which were released to public simultaneously in London, New York, New Delhi and Mujibnagar.
There was brisk bidding and the first set of eight stamps was bid for 230 pounds. It is now in the proud possession of a Bangladeshi businessman. Another set went for 220 pounds, now in possession of another Bangladeshi citizen. At the end of the auction which lasted just an hour Stonehouse was glad to announce that his Bangladesh Relief Committee has become richer by at least a thousand pounds by the sale of Bangladesh stamps.
